Now that Zigbee is running in your Home Assistant, it’s time to pair your first real-world device. We’ll start with a Zigbee RGB+CCT smart bulb — the kind that can do full color and tuneable white light, ideal for creating cozy scenes or bright workspaces.
💡 What’s an RGB+CCT Bulb?
- RGB = full color (red, green, blue)
- CCT = Correlated Color Temperature (warm white to cool white)
With this type of bulb, you can:
- Set any color via Home Assistant or voice
- Adjust white temperature (e.g., warm light in the evening, daylight in the morning)
- Control brightness
- Use it in automations, scenes, and voice commands
🧪 Pairing Your First Zigbee Device (Recap)
Let’s go over how to pair Zigbee devices again — this time with your bulb.
1. Go to the ZHA Integration
- In Home Assistant, open Settings → Devices & Services
- Find ZHA and click Configure
2. Put Your Bulb in Pairing Mode
Most Zigbee bulbs enter pairing mode automatically when turned on for the first time.
If not:
- Turn it on/off 5x in quick succession (check manual)
- The bulb will usually blink or flash colors when ready to pair
3. Click “Add Device” in Home Assistant
- Home Assistant will scan for nearby Zigbee devices
- After a few seconds, your bulb should appear
- Assign a name like
Living Room RGB Bulband a room
Your bulb is now ready to use!
🎛 Controlling the Bulb
Once added, go to Devices and click your new bulb. You’ll see:
- On/Off toggle
- Brightness slider
- Color temperature slider
- Color wheel for RGB control
You can use the default interface, add it to Lovelace dashboards, or control it with voice via Google Assistant.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Bulb not pairing? Reset it again and make sure your coordinator is close.
- Slow response? Consider adding a Zigbee router (e.g. smart plug) to strengthen the mesh.
- Unsupported features? Check the bulb’s model number compatibility with ZHA.
